Hello Folks,
After almost two years I am resuming my blog of Petrol-heads :) . In this two years I have test driven almost all cars on sale currently in India, from the tiny Nano to the monstrous Land Rover, from the sluggish Indica to the nail biting Cruze, from the unpredictable Verna to the driver's dream BMW, it has been a thorough beating to all these cars ;).
In today's blog as I sit back on a lazy Sunday afternoon I write about the most exciting cars to drive in India. Those vehicles which have only one purpose, which is to put a wide smile on an enthusiasts face, which makes even the most matured men behave like kids when they are behind the wheel, cars which make people to swear by anything to own one of them.
From my experience of driving few of them I would like to share this exciting experience with you all starting from the Hot Hatches its the very peppy, very lively and the car which certainly puts a smile on your face "The Maruti Suzuki Swift", with its rally suspension and a gem of an engine, its built for only one purpose : 'FUN'. This is a car which can give MINI a run for its money, especially the diesel variant which as my dear friend Aditya points out "Its the only turbo amongst all turbo engines which acts like a turbo" :D, once the revs goes past 1800rpm the turbo kicks in as though someone has kicked you on your butt and will remain to excite you all the way to 180 kmph.
Coming to the compact sedans frankly there aren't many cars which is exciting to drive, amongst those which are available in India the sole car which is exciting in this segment is "The Ford Fiesta" particularly the 'Sport' variant, with its extremely rigid and lively chassis and a responsive 1.6L petrol engine its certainly is the best performance car in its class, no wonder its called the poor man's BMW.
Graduating from compact sedans to luxury sedans there are few cars which are exciting to drive like the Cruze but the one car which can literally wet pants is "The Laura TSI" with its massive turbo and rock solid stability it can cross the 200kmph mark with ease and which eventually will get you somewhere close to 230 kmph, this vehicle is a tuners dream, the engine has the ability to pump out close to 500 bhp which easily outruns the stock BMWs and even a couple of Porsches in a quarter mile drag.
Finally coming to executive imports (less than 60L) there are many exciting cars in this segment from the BMWs stable we have the 320d and 530d, from Honda its Accord V6, from Audi its A4 TFSI and from Merc its the C200 Kompressor and the E-350, and lastly from Jaguar its the XFS, but considering the 'EXCITEMENT' factor alone the one car with its fantastic engine, extremely sporty chassis, leech like grip and Spartan levels of handling, [ No awards for guessing ;) ] , YES! it is the BMW 320d which is the most exciting car I have driven till date.
In this blog I havent considered the exotics ( i.e. the Ferraris, Lambos or Porsches) simply because I havent got the chance to drive any of them till now :D , will definitely update with those cars too whenever i get a chance to drive them.
